Made by Swan can offer a unique bespoke service in wooden “structure” based on many years of experience and expertise.

Fundamental to our approach is the belief that through thoughtful design there is enormous potential for wooden structure itself to express aesthetic quality and bring a form of art to the building interior.

Structure is used here as a broad term but in essence refers to wooden members joined together to provide either support or screening. Our approach draws on two main influences, the first being certain features of the Japanese design tradition and the second the descriptive geometry techniques of 3-dimensional space.

The common shoji that we offer is an example of screening structure that is skilfully made and designed with utmost restraint in dimensioning of its members.

The geometric form of our support trestles and lamp bases are further examples of our approach to structure and if required can extend to any of the more complex roof structures which clients wish to express internally.

We also offer a small range of wooden furniture using a similar design ethos to our approach to support structure expressing where possible craftmanship in the joinery. We often use older ways of wood preparation cleaving it directly from the log, adding positive expression of the beauty of raw material.

The company is interested to work in collaboration with other artists and designers to develop the idea that aesthetically pleasing and efficiently engineered functional structures made from wood can go hand in hand with the influence of art.
